＜授業の目的＞
In this course, students will develop their communication skills through a variety of pair and group activities. Emphasis will be placed on developing speaking fluency, important communication structures, and communication strategies. In addition, critical thinking skills, reading skills, and vocabulary will be improved.

＜授業の方法＞
Classes will be conducted face-to-face and/or online as appropriate. During semester one, we will work through the first six units in the textbook named ‘Cycle 1, and in semester two we will complete the next six units named Cycle 2. Students will be expected to give presentations during both semesters on the topics covered. These will take the form of oral presentations or PowerPoint presentations, and depending on circumstances, poster presentations. Students will be informed by their individual teacher if circumstances arise that require implementing necessary safety precautions. PLEASE NOTE: Any changes regarding online or face-to-face teaching methods will be made known on the CNS messaging system--based on any changes in university policies.

This class will be taught in English, and students will be expected to use English in the class. Students should be prepared to bring a laptop computer/ipad/smartphone if directed to by the teacher. In the event that classes are online, students will be expected to use Moodle and/or MS Teams as directed by the teacher.

＜前年度授業に対する改善要望等への対応＞
There are two areas that need to be addressed: Firstly, the presentation preparation will include a written script of a presentation sample as well as the instructor giving an actual speaking example of a presentation that is expected of students. Secondly, students will be given more opportunity to speak in more group-oriented discussions, rather than with just one partner during the face-to-face lessons.
