<授業の目的>
This course aims to give students a greater understanding of human biology and health sciences, as well as deliver effective presentations.

Students should gain useful vocabulary, and a deeper understanding of subjects related to their field of study. They will also gain confidence in giving oral presentations on these topics in front of their peers.

「ドイツ語・フランス語・スペイン語・中国語」で基礎的な内容について読み書き、口頭でのやりとり・意思疎通ができる。
2汎用能力1・コミュニケーションスキル読解力情報の正確さや分析の妥当性などについて吟味しながら学術的な文献を読むことができる。
3文章表現力適切な手順を踏んで学術的な文章を書くことができる。
4口頭発表力自分の意見を、一定の論理的根拠を伴って、わかりやすく話すことができる。
<授業の方法>
This will be done through a variety of discussion topics, readings, in-depth vocabulary study and research projects. Until such time as we return to the classroom, classes will be conducted online using a mixture of Moodle and MS Teams or Zoom. Assignments and coursework will be on Moodle, and Discussion and Research topics will mainly be on MS Teams or Zoom. When it is deemed safe to return to the classroom, social distancing and appropriate ventilation of the classroom will be observed. Students will be expected to give presentations throughout the year on some of the topics covered, therefore effective presentation skills will also be taught. There are 12 units in the course, and 6 will be covered each semester.

<受講に際して・学生へのメッセージ>
This class will be taught in English, and students will be expected to use English in the class. Students should bring a laptop computer/ipad/smartphone for sessions when we return to the classroom if directed to by the teacher. While classes are online, students will be expected to use Moodle and MS Teams or ZOOM as directed by the teacher.

<授業計画の概要>
Week 1 – Go over the objectives of the course again, and if the class members have changed do some ice-breaker activities. Review the topics covered in Semester 1. Go over any issues with respect to the first presentations.
Week 2 – Topic 7 – Ecology and Waste Recycling. Work through the text, covering Listen and Think, Pair Work, Reading, Target Terms, Focus on Language, and Focus on Content. Some sections may be omitted if the teacher feels that they are not relevant. Set up the Research section for the next session.
Week 3 – Topic 7 – Ecology and Waste Recycling. Complete the Research section.
Week 4 – Topic 8 – Genetic Variation. Repeat the process from week 2.
Week 5 – Topic 8 – Genetic Variation. Complete the Research section.
Week 6 – Topic 9 – Evolution. Repeat the process from week 2.
Week 7 – Topic 9 – Evolution. Complete the Research section.
Week 8 – Topic 10 – Microorganisms and Disease. Repeat the process from week 2.
Week 9 – Topic 10 – Microorganisms and Disease. Complete the Research section.
Week 10 – Topic 11 – The Cell and Simple Cell Transport. Repeat the process from week 2.
Week 11 – Topic 11 – The Cell and Simple Cell Transport. Complete the Research section.
Week 12 – Topic 12 – Humans and Their Environment. Repeat the process from week 2.
Week 13 – Topic 12 – Humans and Their Environment. Complete the Research section.
Week 14 – Presentations. Students should give a presentation on one of the topics covered. Presentations should be around 5 - 7minutes long, and delivered without PowerPoint or any other similar software.
Teachers should encourage questions from the rest of the class, and give feedback to those presenting. Therefore, split this into two sessions, doing half the class this week, and half next week.
