<授業の目的>
This course helps students to communicate confidently in English in a wide variety of technical fields. The course focuses on the real-life tasks and context, that students will encounter in their professional life, and develops the skills and confidence required to deal with these situation in English. In the present society, more than ever there is a need to explain technical concepts to international colleagues, so this course also introduces basic skills for presentation in English.

<授業の方法>
1) The lecture will be given according to the textbook, so students should purchase the textbook and bring it with them.
2) Mini-test will be subjected on Moodle to check your understanding of each lecture. For details on how to submit the mini-test, please refer to the lecture topics on Moodle. The results of the mini-test will be evaluated as a class activity.
3) In weeks 14 and 15, students will make a short presentation in English using PowerPoint. Not only your speaking, but also presentation material and content will be evaluated. Details will be explained in the week 13 lecture.
<受講に際して・学生へのメッセージ>
1) The textbook, "Tech talk Pre-intermediate student's book", will also be used for ”技術英語” in the second semester.
2) Be sure to check the CNS frequently for information on lectures. Any disadvantage caused by not checking the CNS may not be considered. If you are sick or have some problems with the Internet, please let me know.
3) The Office hour will be Monday, 5th period. If you have any question, it is recommend to ask it at the end of face-to-face lectures or by using the CNS.

<前年度授業に対する改善要望等への対応>
 The most frequent requests received from a few students was "to speak in Japanese (日本語で話すようにお願いします)” or "to add explanations in Japanese (日本語でも説明を加えるようにする)". There are always requests of this kind every year. In the real society, for example, when conducting business in a foreign country, similar requests are never possible. If you do not understand my talking in English, please ask, "Could you repeat it?" or "Could you speak a little more slowly". This lecture will continue to be given in English only, so please come to the lectures with a good preparation of the textbook prior to the lectures. For important information such as exams and mini-tests, instructions written in Japanese will be distributed separately through CNS or Moodle.
 There was a request to "distribute the audio of the listening portion (リスニングの部分の音声を配布する)", but this is not possible due to copyright issues. If necessary, please purchase the listening CD.
