＜対象学生＞

＜授業の目的＞
科学技術，特に情報技術の分野では英語が事実上の共通語である．各種ソフトウェアのマニュアル，最新技術のニュースなど，国際学会の口頭発表，国際的論文誌，国際的協業のためのミーティング，など，英語を必要とする場面は多い．英語の能力を高めておくことは技術者，研究者にとって必須である． 本授業の目的は，論理的・客観的・合理的に英語を読み，書く能力を高めてもらうことにある．英語の文章を，トピックと，トピックをサポートする事実や例などに分け，それらを意識して読む力，書く力を身に着けてもらう．教室におけるテキストを用いた授業と，教科書に付随するオンライン教材を用いた自習により構成される．オンライン教材は，PCまたはスマートフォン，タブレットなどで学習できる．

＜実務経験のある教員による授業科目の概要＞
担当教員は米国ノースカロライナ州に7年半在住．米国のノースカロライナ大学大学より学位（博士号）を取得．外資系の情報系企業の基礎研究所に研究員として勤務し，英語による会議，プレゼンテーションなどを経験． 担当教員が英語で生活し，学び，仕事をした経験に基づく授業を行う．

授業の出席と課題の提出は必須．授業中の能動的な参加（質疑応答など）は単位取得の前提条件．
