＜授業の目的＞
The aim of this class is to prepare students to become successful language learners by developing the language learning skills necessary for studying abroad at the tertiary level. This will primarily take place through lecture videos that examine various academic subjects. The class is intended primarily for students who plan to continue their education at college or university abroad. We will also focus on the skills necessary for universities abroad such as listening, note-taking, and presentation skills.

＜授業の方法＞
Classes will be conducted face-to-face and/or online as appropriate. There are 12 topics to study for the semester. Each topic will be covered over two class days. On the first class day, students will be introduced to the topic; and on the second class day, students will make a presentation on the topic. Mid-term and Final Exams will be conducted in the middle and the end of the semester. There will also be regular assignments from the Academic Word List for which students will have to work outside class time. There is no prescribed textbook for this class. Students will be provided study material at a level applicable to studying abroad. For an introduction to the topic, students will be required to listen to short academic lectures on various subjects and to answer questions about content and intent. Students should be prepared to listen and speak English in each and every class as if studying in an English environment. Students should use class time well by participating positively and enthusiastically in the lessons. This means working with other students in pairs and groups. They should also prepare and review lessons thoroughly and be prepared for a quiz and presentation on each topic. Classes will be conducted in a hybrid fashion, with face-to-face meetings as well as assignments on Moodle.

PLEASE NOTE: -This class meets twice a week. -This class will be taught in English, and students will be expected to use English in the class and online communication. -Students should be prepared to bring a laptop computer/iPad for each class. -All assignments and essays will be submitted via Moodle for grading and feedback. -For consultation/feedback outside class time, I am available in my office (Y-304) on Tuesdays, period 3.
