<授業の目的および概要>
The primary aim of this course is to prepare students to communicate successsfully and confidently with native and non-native speakers of English by using a variety of interesting material to present and consolidate the skills necesssary for such communication (listening, speaking, reading and writing). A secondary aim of the course is to acquaint students with terminology used in nursing, medicine and related fields.
<到達目標>
The goal is for students to improve their English ability overcome fears and inhibitions about speaking English, enabling them to express themslves effectively and with confidence in a variety of everyday situations. Students will also become familiar with terminology used in nursing, enabling them to communicate with English-speaking patients.
<授業の方法>
In class a textbook will be used providing all the skills mentioned above, which will be supplemented with printed handouts aimed at expanding vocabulary and idioms and with additional exercises for improving listening.

<受講に際して・学生へのメッセージ>
In addition to the class work referred to above, students will also be required to keep a short diary in English of important or interesting events that happened during the previous week and be prepared to speak about them in class if called upon to do so. The diary will be handed in to the teacher and returned corrected to the student at a later date. Students should use class time well by participating positively in the lesson. They should arrive at class in good time. They should prepare and review lessons thoroughly. If all the work done in class is carefully reviewed, the final examination will be no problem.
